Qigong for ADD/ADHD

Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are seen as neurological conditions that affect attention, self-control and executive functioning (what helps us get things done).

The symptoms below can be seen in very young children and can last well into adulthood and you may not have all of them depending on whether you are predominantly ADD, ADHD or a combination of both.  Please remember this is not a complete list. It only serves to give you an idea of how ADD/ADHD expresses itself.  A proper diagnosis from a medical professional is key in moving forward.  If you suspect you or your child has ADD or ADHD, make sure you get this as many of the ‘symptoms’ can often be indicative of something else.

ADD

  • Typically running late or losing track of time
  • Often misplacing keys, glasses, books, etc
  • Feeling overwhelmed by to-do lists
  • Difficulty focusing in conversations and on tasks
  • Forgetting dates and tasks

ADHD

  • Inability to finish tasks, projects
  • Emotional outbursts
  • Constant fidgeting
  • Extremely talkative
  • Impulsive spending, decisions

Once you are sure, there is a lot you can do to manage these conditions.  ADD/ADHD expresses itself differently with each and every person so the treatment plan is different as well but typically may include medication, exercise, nutrition, cognitive brain therapy (brain exercises) and mindfulness & meditation.  That’s where Qigong comes in!

Qigong is a moving meditation which is much easier for those with ADHD and a restless body and the visualizations and sounds help to keep bright, creative minds engaged.  At the same time, it is a very grounding practice giving deep relaxation to the overactive brain.  The moving and transforming of your body’s energy (qi) promotes better focus, calmness and peace of mind as well as helping to balance all internal organs, including the brain!

Oil Cleansing for All Skin Types

Most conventional skincare products contain irritants like alcohols, sulphates and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. These chemicals strip the skin of its natural oils, dissolve beneficial bacteria, and irritate the skin, leaving it sensitive, reddened and inflamed. By stripping the natural oils in your skin, your sebaceous glands either start to overcompensate, producing excess oils which results in an oily complexion, or become overly dehydrated, leading to dryness, sensitivity, and premature wrinkling. Oil cleansing is a gentle alternative to using conventional cleansers. Plant-based oils gently bind to and remove dirty oils and makeup from the surface of the skin, replacing them with nourishing oils. Great for all skin types!

Rather than bore you with New Year’s resolutions, here’s some food for thought for your finances in 2019: Never mind the negative news and the loses in stock markets – THIS IS NORMAL. Take advantage of drops in the market with monthly contributions and buy in at lower prices. Great news for investors, the new TFSA contribution limit for 2019 has gone up to $6,000! Here’s to your happiness, health, and wealth for the new year and beyond!

Making 2019 YOUR Year!

2018 is over and you’ve made resolutions. 2019 is different! Or have you sworn off resolutions because its “futile” and your tried of failure. What if your understanding of failure is the problem? And doing something wrong is the way to arrive at your goal. An example is the black box of an airplane. If examined would reveal it is off course 50-70% of the time. So how can that be if it arrives on time at its destination? The reason; it self-corrects its course all the time. Resolutions are the same. We can help you keep your resolutions!

What is IMS?

IMS stands for “intramuscular stimulation“ and refers to the insertion of a fine needle (such as an acupuncture needle) into muscle tissue to release shortened muscle fibers. It can also be called trigger point or functional dry needling. Some physiotherapists and other health care practitioners utilize this technique to decrease tension in muscles that may be compressing nerves, restricting joint mobility, or otherwise causing pain and irritability. IMS can be extremely effective in the treatment of various conditions from headaches to tennis elbow to low back pain. When combined with the appropriate exercises it can provide long lasting results.

Forest Bathing

Diana Beresford-Kroeger, a world-renowned natural scientist, has concluded that trees contain natural medicines to keep them healthy. They share those medicines with us. “Aerosols flood the air and bathe every part of the body, the skin, the mouth, the nasal passages with medicinal molecules”. This is known as forest bathing. Diana believes that if everyone planted one tree every year for six years, climate change would be solved.

A Head Start on Investments

All the Christmas trimmings have been put away for another year; the turkey has had its last stand and everyone eating chocolate like it was going out of style. We now have a brief period to catch our breath before we embrace the Tax Season. Take a few of those moments to consider your RRSP/TFSA. Typically, we have more time to talk with you from now until the last week of February. We can review what you have done in the past and see if we should add to those investments or look at others. And, as you will appreciate, the more time we have for that the better.

Laser Acupuncture for Smoking Cessation

If you’re trying to quit smoking once and for all, you’ve likely used a variety of products, from patches to gum to pills. Laser acupuncture is a non-invasive option that focuses on the three aspects of addiction: physical, using laser/electronic stimulation of acupressure points on your upper body; psychological, providing materials, tips, and one-on-one coaching; and detoxification, helping to eliminate cigarette toxins from your body.

Math Learning Difficulties

While many children have some difficulty with math, some may experience dyscalculia, which makes understanding numbers and mathematical concepts an ongoing struggle that is often stressful and anxiety provoking. Aside from causing issues with solving traditional math problems, dyscalculia can also affect a child’s ability to manage their time or follow a calendar. Children with dyscalculia often require extra support in the classroom, which is something not all schools can provide. Taking advantage of programs that provide additional support outside of school can help children with dyscalculia grow their brains capacity for learning, which in turn can lead to improvements in the ability to understand math.
