Youth Engagement & Empowerment program is available
for youth and operates five days a week (Tuesday to
Saturday) and is free to register. Transportation and food are
provided. Participation is required, and our goal is to provide
a safe space where youth can develop self-esteem, leadership
skills, and healthy relationships. We offer evening, summer,
and Saturday day programs, including cultural activities and
on-the-land camps. We aim to reduce illegal behaviors and
drug use among indigenous youth and address their mental
health concerns. Our team includes Elders, youth workers, and
various facilitators. We care about urban Indigenous youth and
are here to help and support them and their families.
Proud to Offer Local Services to Seniors
Saskatoon Services for Seniors is proud of our ability to offer many types of home support services that may be needed from time to time. We provide trained and reliable employees and volunteers – who visit clients to perform an agreed upon service, such as:
Gardening – We are delighted to have some talented gardeners ready to beautify your yard! With their skills in planting, weeding, pruning, watering and more, it’s clear they’re passionate about making outdoor spaces look their best. If anyone needs a helping hand in their yard this summer, they’d be in good hands with our gardeners. Please give us a call to make arrangements.
Housekeeping Services – Saskatoon Services for Seniors offers housekeeping services for all seniors in Saskatoon. Our staff is screened and fully insured. We are here to assist with many household cleaning services such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, dusting and wall washing. We only provide the services that you require and as such only have a one hour minimum for each appointment. We can provide weekly service, bi-weekly services or just when you need us. The fee involved is based on the senior’s income to keep costs manageable for low-income households. Call us to check availability.
Shopping Delivery Program – Regardless of age, we all need to eat. But those groceries can be heavy and the store can be busy and loud. Or you might not have time for it amidst all your other appointments and obligations. So let us shop on your behalf by joining our grocery program. Our members can phone or e-mail us Monday and provide us with a detailed shopping list and a store to go to. We will buy what you need and deliver it to you. We can even buy non-food items like yarn or cutlery. Maybe a gift for yourself or a loved one? And you’re not obligated to order every week. Some people even only order once to get that item from a store that’s too far from home. But slots are limited (another reason why our volunteers are so important) so contact us for more information.
Volunteers Needed! – Here at Saskatoon Services for Seniors we strive to make a difference every day. We do this by helping seniors to remain in their own homes safely for as long as possible. Our very popular Yard Work and Gardening programs are in full swing. We encourage anyone with a heart of gold who likes working outdoors to volunteer so that seniors in our community can keep their yards and gardens looking beautiful now that winter has finally receded. If you or someone you know would be interested in helping seniors in our community, please contact our office today. All help is greatly appreciated.
Hiring Housekeepers – Do you like cleaning up? Do you know somebody else who does? We’re looking to hire Housekeepers so you can do what you love and be paid for it. Saskatoon Services for Seniors is looking for kind souls with good work ethic to go to seniors’ homes and do laundry, cleaning, and other related tasks. You won’t need to do any nursing-related tasks so it’s no medical or personal care knowledge is needed. Please inquire if interested.

August Brain Teasers
.1 A sundial has the fewest moving parts of any timepiece. Which has the most? 2. What kind of running means walking? 3. What is made of water but if you put it into water it will die?
The Healing Power of Reiki
Reiki, a form of energy healing, offers numerous benefits that promote overall wellness. It is renowned for its ability to reduce stress and induce relaxation, fostering an environment for healing and well-being. Reiki balances the mind, body, and spirit and can complement other medical or therapeutic treatments. Sessions are conducted in a peaceful, calming setting, and involve either hands-on or hands-off techniques. Clients may experience sensations such as warmth, tingling, or emotional release. Suitable for all ages and conditions, Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle therapy that enhances spiritual growth and overall wellness.
Interment & Cremation
There are many options when choosing a final resting place for cremated remains. At a cemetery, you may choose an above ground niche or in ground burial. Some, express a wish to scatter cremated remains or take the urn home. Have you considered that these latter options, could affect your family in the years and generations ahead? What will happen to the urn at home in 20+ years? There is peace of mind in a final resting place that is permanent, secure and sacred, that allows you to honour a life and have a place that family & friends can come to gather, visit, and grieve- honouring family heritage for years to come.
International Overdose Awareness Day
As a pharmacist, I urge you to observe International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) on August 31, the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose. This year’s theme, “Together we can,” emphasizes the strength of our community when united. Let’s remember those who have lost their lives without stigma and support the grieving families and friends left behind. At our pharmacy in Martensville, we are committed to this cause. We offer free naloxone kits, a life-saving tool in overdose emergencies. Together, we can make a difference. #TogetherWeCan #IOAD2024 #EndOverdose.
Hearing Loss? Seek Help Now!
Sudden Hearing Loss (SHL) is a condition where hearing loss occurs suddenly or within a few days, often affecting only one ear. Annually, about one in 5,000 adults experience SHL, though the actual number may be higher due to unreported cases. Known medically as sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL), this condition is often idiopathic, meaning its cause is usually unknown. SHL is a medical emergency. If you or a loved one experiences sudden hearing loss, seek medical attention immediately. Early treatment improves the chances of recovery. Don’t delay; consult a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and timely intervention.
Enhancing one’s Life
Learning in advance how to prevent and handle one’s own challenges, can lead to a healthier and more prosperous life. Counselling & Therapy seeks to enhance ones life, develop healthier ways to handle everyday stresses, and/or particular situations. Taking the initiative to learn the various ways one can access services, online or in person, through various programs in your community, can help alleviate the pressure when you or a loved one may need assistance. It’s never too late to learn healthier ways to ensure you live the wonderful life that is in you.
Sparkling Smiles, Happy Kids
Healthy teeth mean happy kids! Make brushing twice a day a fun routine with interactive apps or music. Regular dental visits help prevent cavities and keep smiles bright. Swap out sugary drinks for water and healthy snacks like cheese and yogurt. Teach kids the importance of flossing with easy-to-use flossers. As we celebrate World Friendship Day in August, remind kids that a great smile is a key to making and keeping friends. Let’s ensure our young ones maintain their dental health, so they can confidently share their smiles all year round!
Sunshine and Health
Sunshine is believed to increase the release of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin, often referred to as the feel-good hormone, is associated with boosting mood, lowering feelings of anxiety, and helping a person feel calm and focused. Exposure to sunshine and light during the day and darkness at night helps us maintain a healthy circadian rhythm, which is essential for good mental health. Sunshine also helps your body make vitamin D. Vitamin D is an important nutrient for your bones, blood cells, and immune system and helps with the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. Go out and enjoy the sunshine safely; it is good for your health!
