We are looking for donations of equipment for our winter services. From shovels to ice breakers and even snowblowers we would appreciate any functional equipment donation. As winter closes in we’re trying to get the equipment and staff to serve our clients.

Eating Healthy at Holiday Meals

Holiday and special celebration meals are amazing. The endless array of baking, casseroles, and other rich foods can make your mouth water long before the meal. Sometimes “too much of a good thing is—too much!” To stay on track with healthy eating during celebrations, plan ahead of time. Decide what you cannot live without and plan to enjoy it without guilt. Allow yourself to indulge in small portions and savour them. Be sure to include fresh vegetables and drink plenty of water during the celebration to keep hydrated. Water helps flush out the extra salt and fat that you consume.

Shopping Delivery Program

Let us shop on your behalf! Our members can phone or e-mail us with a detailed shopping list and we will go to the store for you and then deliver the groceries to your home. You can order as often or as little as you need. Some people only order once to get that item from a store that’s too far from home or if the weather is terrible and they do not want to venture out. We do have weekly limits to the spots available (another reason why our volunteers are so important) so please contact us for more information.

Fall Prevention Month

November is Fall Prevention Month in Canada, highlighting the serious impact of falls on older adults. Falls can cause chronic pain, injury, reduced quality of life, and loss of independence. They are the leading cause of injury-related hospital visits and deaths in seniors, costing Canada $5.6 billion annually. To prevent falls: exercise regularly, get your sight and hearing checked, manage medications, wear proper shoes, and remove hazards at home. Use mobility aids if needed and ensure good lighting. Taking precautions is key to maintaining health and independence as we age.

Domestic Violence and Your Health

Domestic violence, also known as Intimate Partner Violence or IPV, is often thought about as a women’s issue. However, rates of IPV among men are steadily increasing, as men are beginning to recognize the signs of IPV and break the cycle of abuse. National Domestic Violence Awareness is recognized in the month of November–the month that also recognizes men’s health–and it is no coincidence that those who suffer from IPV also experience poorer physical and mental health outcomes. Regardless of your gender identity, IPV is a serious concern, and you are worthy of help, love and support.

What is a Sound Bath?

A sound bath is a meditative experience where participants are immersed in soothing sound waves produced using specific instruments like gongs, singing bowls, chimes, and drums. The vibrations from these instruments promote deep relaxation, reduce stress, and help balance energy. Our sound baths take place in a tranquil environment where participants lie down and the healing tones, frequencies and vibrations wash over them allowing the mind and body to physically, mentally & emotionally release tension. People report feeling more centered, calm, and rejuvenated after a session, as the harmonic frequencies promote both mental and physical well-being through deep relaxation.

Quit Smoking this Winter

As the weather cools, the desire to stay warm and cozy indoors with loved ones grows stronger. Stepping outside for even a single cigarette pulls you away from that comfort, and with temperatures continuing to drop, it becomes even less appealing. Instead, why not explore healthier ways to manage stress and discomfort that let you stay inside while boosting your well-being? Try a cardio workout at the gym—you’ll not only release stress but also flood your body with endorphins. Your loved ones will notice you taking positive steps for yourself, and you might even inspire them to follow your lead.
