Stronger Hips, Better Movement

Hip pain can affect everything from walking and sleeping to enjoying everyday activities. As a physiotherapist, I often see hip discomfort caused by muscle imbalances, joint stiffness, poor movement patterns, or lingering injuries. The good news is that many hip issues respond very well to targeted exercises, mobility work, and proper movement education. Early assessment is key. To help the community better understand hip pain and how to manage it, Donald Physiotherapy is offering a FREE Hip Pain Workshop on February 18th at 7pm. Learn practical strategies to reduce pain, improve mobility, and keep your hips moving comfortably for years to come.

Care for Your Emotional Heart

Heart health isn’t only about diet and exercise — it’s also deeply connected to emotional well-being. Chronic stress, unresolved grief, anxiety, and emotional overload can increase inflammation, raise blood pressure, and strain the heart over time. During Heart Health Month, consider how counselling can support both your emotional and physical health. Talking with a counsellor provides a safe space to process stress, develop healthy coping strategies, and improve emotional regulation. When you care for your mental and emotional health, you support your heart’s resilience too. A healthier heart often begins with a calmer mind and a supported emotional life.

Heart Health & Connection

February is a month to celebrate love, connection, and heart health. Reflexology supports the cardiovascular system by encouraging circulation and reducing stress, which are important for a healthy heart. Aromatherapy enhances emotional well-being with oils like rose, ylang ylang, and bergamot, which lift the spirit and invite connection. Whether you’re focussing on self-love or sharing care with others, taking time to nurture your heart is essential. A reflexology session can be a thoughtful Valentine’s gift to yourself or someone special. This month, prioritize your heart, both physically and emotionally, and feel the benefits of deeper balance, love, and renewal.

Communication Rule

Many misunderstandings and conflicts arise because of poor communication. Here is something to remember. Communication is made up of 7% spoken words; 38% of voice and tone; and 53% body language. The Enneagram is a tool that helps you be present in the moment – speaking and listening with your quiet mind (words), open heart (tone) and grounded body. How calm and open you are, can be far more important than the actual words you speak. Remembering this will not only help you be better understood, but it will also help build your relationships with your family members and coworkers!

Reflexology for a Healthy Heart

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that involves applying targeted pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears, which correspond to different systems within the body. In relation to heart health, reflexology helps support healthy circulation, encourage deep relaxation, and reduce stress which are key factors in maintaining cardiovascular wellbeing. By calming the nervous system, reflexology promotes relaxation and may support healthier heart rhythms. Regular sessions may help ease tension, improve sleep quality, and support the body’s natural ability to restore balance and overall well being.

Mind Your Head Position

Head-forward posture, like when you look down at your phone, places extra strain on the muscles, ligaments, and joints of the neck. Over time, this can reduce blood flow to the brain, contribute to headaches and fatigue, affect balance, and even decrease lung volume, making breathing less efficient. Many people don’t realize posture may be at the root of these concerns. A chiropractor can assess your posture and spinal alignment to determine whether it’s contributing to your symptoms and recommend appropriate care and exercises. Simple postural changes can make a meaningful difference in overall health.

Gluten Free Goodness You’ll Love

February is a great time to enjoy comforting foods while being mindful of individual dietary needs. For those living with gluten sensitivities, celiac disease, or food allergies, finding safe and satisfying options can make all the difference. Amanda Lynn Gluten Free Perogies and Pizza Dough are gluten and nut free, and depending on the variety, can suit a range of dietary preferences and lifestyles. Offering familiar comfort without unnecessary ingredients, they allow more people to enjoy a classic favourite with confidence. Thoughtful food choices help bring people together at the table, regardless of dietary restrictions.

Protect, Prevent, and Be Informed

Sexual Health Week, February 12 to 16, is an important opportunity to prioritize your well-being. As a pharmacist, I encourage everyone to stay informed about safe practices, regular STI testing, and contraception options. Accessing resources like local clinics, online health portals, and pharmacy consultations can help you make confident, informed decisions. Understanding signs and symptoms, knowing where to get testing, and discussing medications or preventive care with a healthcare professional are key steps. Use this week to learn, ask questions, and access the support available.

Support for Radiation Therapy Patients

Naturopathic medicine can be a supportive, evidence-informed addition for patients receiving radiation therapy. It does not replace oncology treatment, but works alongside it to support overall health, resilience, and quality of life. Radiation may contribute to fatigue, appetite changes, digestive symptoms, and skin irritation. Naturopathic care focuses on individualized assessment, nutritional support, lifestyle guidance, and symptom management tailored to the patient’s needs and treatment plan. A key component is safety and collaboration, with careful review of therapies and communication with the oncology team to ensure approaches are appropriate and do not interfere with radiation. This integrative model helps patients feel supported, informed, with the hope of increased tolerance to treatment.

Boosting your Immune System with Reiki

Did you know that Reiki can help improve immune function? Reiki offers a powerful, yet often overlooked, way to strengthen the immune system. It works by stimulating energy flow throughout the body, enhancing vitality and resilience. Reiki shifts energies in key areas; the gut, heart, and nervous system, to restore feelings of balance, improve immune function, and encourage faster recovery from illness. By clearing energetic blockages in a gentle and non-invasive way, Reiki ensures the body’s natural defenses are primed and effective. Whether used alongside conventional medicine or as a preventive wellness practice, Reiki supports your well-being at its core.
