Insight Scans of Your Nervous System

Insight scans allow a practitioner to see how your nervous system is adapting to daily stresses. State-of-the-art technology is available that will allow a non-invasive approach. Insight Subluxation Station is technology that was once used by NASA and now chiropractors have adopted it to measure the deeper tensions in the nervous system that one cannot feel. Since it is non-invasive, this is used frequently to measure how the adjustments are changing the stress patterns in your body. The Torque Release Technique is a very sophisticated, gentle, and specific adjustment that involves using an instrument on the area of concern. It’s great for children and the elderly, with no cracking sound involved. This technique is powerful in releasing deeper tensions and resetting your nervous system. Finally, the Webster Technique is a super gentle technique for pregnant women and allows room for baby to grow by keeping mom’s hips stable as she gets bigger.

Rabies Shots Before Travel

Are you travelling with your pet to the US this summer? Remember that legally you are obliged to have a current rabies vaccination status for your pet. If official status has lapsed, the booster is meant to be given 30 days prior to travel to the US. This helps protect your pet against the rabies virus, should it come into contact with any infected animals, and also ensures your pet isn’t going to transfer rabies to other animals or humans. Depending on where you travel, you should also think about the risk of disease from ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes, as they are more common in many US locations than they are here.

Rejuvenate Your Skin with Ease

Enhanced Microcurrent Facial Treatment acts like an electronic syringe, which enables the therapist to fill lines, reduce wrinkles, pigmentation, and stretch marks. It can provide the results offered by traditional mesotherapy and/or micro-needling, but without the painful injections, bruising, or downtime. The active compounds we use during the treatment have no unnecessary chemical ingredients, just effective, natural formulations to help improve the skin. The treatment time is short, at only 45 minutes, and there is no healing time needed or any risk of scarring. Six weekly sessions can provide optimal results for issues such as acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, dehydration, and signs of aging.

Golfing is Like Investing

It’s golfing season! Apply the same strategies to investing that you do to being out on the course. When golfing, you have to choose the right club for the stroke. It’s the same when choosing an appropriate investment for your portfolio, which should be based on your financial goals and risk profile. In golfing and in investing, success comes not from comparing yourself to others, but from focusing on your own game. Patience and practice are important when golfing, just like in investing – think about the long-term. Finally, rely on your advisor/partner for guidance, just like during a round!

Core Training vs. Strengthening

The terms core training and core strengthening have been used interchangeably in both the physiotherapy and fitness industries, yet there is a significant difference between the two. Your core is the area between your breathing diaphragm and your pelvic floor. Core training exercises focus on restoring the timing and sequencing of your deep muscles to reinforce an optimal pattern of muscle activation (motor learning). Core training helps to make the right connections between your brain and your core. Once core training has restored deep muscle function, core strengthening exercises can be added to further improve function and performance. There is a difference, come and see for yourself.

Keeping Up-to-Date with Vaccinations

While we often think about the immunization of children, in recent years, there are more and more vaccinations for adults. According to the ImmunizeBC website (immunizebc.ca), as we get older, some of our vaccination protection may wane or there may be some vaccinations available now that were not available when we were children. The list of available vaccinations is long. Whether you need a booster shot or a first immunization will depend on factors such as your age, job, health, and immunization history. Check on your immunization status and, if needed, get your vaccinations updated today.

Developing with Nature in Mind

An intimate relationship with nature is built into the human psyche; a clean and positive environment affects our physical body, mind, intuition, and higher self. Spirituality has the power to check greed, it elevates one’s consciousness, and it opens our eyes to the beauty of nature (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar). Locally, greed is predominant, as developers and civic leaders have no connection with nature or animal protection. People move to our valley because of the beauty, but our beauty is fast disappearing. It is time to make a stand and develop with nature in mind. It can and must be done.

Kombucha and Liver Health

In April of 2009, an abstract was published on PubMed.gov titled, “Hepatoprotective and curative properties of Kombucha tea against carbon tetrachloride-induced toxicity”. This study was performed by the Department of Biotechnology at Bharathiar University in India. The study evaluated and compared hepatoprotective and curative properties of kombucha tea, black tea, and enzyme processed tea against CCl4-induced toxicity, using male albino rats as an experimental model. All three of the tea preparations showed potential to revert the induced toxicity, yet kombucha tea was found to be more efficient than the other teas were. Fermentation-generated antioxidant molecules were suspected as the reason.

Ask The Expert

Q: What are the best sunglasses to get this summer?
A: Sunglass lenses can be optimized for vision, comfort, protection, and performance. For instance, prescription polarized lenses in a brownish tint with anti-reflection properties and UV/blue light filters would be great to use for long road trips as well as spending time on the water on sunny days. Another thing to think about is frame choice – some frames give more coverage than other frames do, and a properly fitted frame will be a better investment than a trendy one that doesn’t fit well or hold the prescription lenses adequately.

Underactive Stomach – Hypochlorydria

Symptoms of an underactive stomach include bloating and gas, diarrhea and/or constipation, undigested food in the stool, candidiasis, chronic dysbiosis (imbalanced gut flora), and mineral deficiency (most commonly iron and zinc). Individuals may also experience increasing food sensitivities/allergies; nausea after taking supplements; weak, peeling, cracked fingernails; and dull hair or hair loss as a result of stomach acid deficiency. Improving symptoms of an underactive stomach can be done using raw, unfiltered, organic apple cider vinegar. Add one tablespoon to a cup of room temperature or hot water (cold water inhibits digestion), and drink it 15 to 30 minutes before meals.
