Gentle Arthritis Relief

As the weather changes, many people with arthritis experience increased stiffness and discomfort in their joints. Safe, gentle, and effective soft tissue therapy can provide meaningful relief. Techniques such as light massage, myofascial release, and gentle joint mobilizations help ease tension, improve circulation, and reduce painful tightness. Chiropractic adjustments further support joint alignment and mobility, enhancing flexibility and range of motion. Regular care before seasonal shifts can help individuals with arthritis better manage symptoms, maintain comfort, and continue daily activities with greater ease and confidence. This proactive approach supports long-term joint health and well-being.

Living Well with Arthritis

Arthritis affects many seniors, causing joint pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. The most common types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. While it can be challenging, proper management helps maintain an active lifestyle. Low-impact exercises like swimming or tai chi improve flexibility and reduce pain. Custom orthotics and assistive devices can protect joints. A diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods—like leafy greens, berries, and omega-3s—may also ease symptoms. Staying socially engaged and physically active supports both joint and mental health. With the right approach, seniors can manage arthritis and continue doing the things they love.

Raising Awareness About Dementia

This month, the SSNVI encourages all community members—especially seniors and those who care for them—to deepen their understanding of Alzheimer’s, other forms of dementia, and the profound impact they have on individuals and families.
Seniors are at the heart of this conversation. Whether you’re living with dementia yourself or support someone who is, your experiences matter. While World Alzheimer’s Month is the month of September, the realities of living with dementia continue every day for many older Canadians. That’s why we encourage you to carry this awareness forward all year long.
Understanding what seniors living with forms of dementia face—their challenges, strengths, and daily experiences—helps break down stigma and builds a more compassionate and informed society. It also supports stronger advocacy for healthcare, policy change, and community support for aging populations.
Building awareness is the first step in honouring the dignity, rights, and lives of seniors living with dementia. Here are three things you can do this month;
1. Learn about the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s at alzeheimer.ca
2. Learn more about dementia and stigma. Miscommunication is the cause of stigma. Learn about communication, strategies, and safety at ilivewithdementia.ca
3. Share what you have learned with others. Talk to your friends and family about dementia and the stigma that is attached to the diagnosis.

Arthritis and Dental Health

September is Arthritis Awareness Month, making it a great time to highlight the importance of dental care for those living with arthritis. Joint pain and stiffness can make brushing and flossing more challenging, leading to plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. Inflammation from arthritis can also increase oral health risks, while poor dental health may worsen overall inflammation. Adaptive tools like electric toothbrushes or floss holders can make daily care easier. Regular dental checkups, professional cleanings, and consistent home habits are essential. Protecting your oral health supports overall wellness and helps manage arthritis-related inflammation. Your smile deserves the best!
