FALL for Someone Special

The leaves changing colour and the crispness in the air can only mean one thing. It’s fall! Those carefree summer days of soaking up the sun turn to days that are meant for curling up with that special someone and getting cozy indoors. It’s a great time to look for love if you’re single, as the distractions that often come with summer activities have come and gone. Instead, fall is the time to focus on finding a connection. Most people, however, are unsure where to find love. Reach out to a professional Matchmaker. With a long cold winter ahead, you will be thankful that you did.

Reflexology – More Than a Foot Rub!

Reflexology is a natural therapy that reduces pain, stress & tension in the body and improves circulation (cardiovascular & lymphatic) and elimination. There are reflexes in the feet which are connected to every part, organ and gland through a subtle energy that flows through channels in the body. When there is discomfort like stress, trauma, injury or illness, blockages develop in these channels and the flow of energy becomes disrupted. By applying pressure to these reflexes, signals are sent via the nervous system that release these blockages, relax the body and balance the natural functioning elsewhere in the body. It is a total ‘reboot and rebalance’!

Chiropractor Care is Simple

Modern life is filled with opportunities that cause misalignment in the joints of the spine. Sitting, bending, lifting, trauma, and poor posture while using computers and mobile phones can all cause strain on the neck and back. This strain can damage the soft tissues of the spine, including the delicate nervous system that is housed within. So, what happens when your spine becomes misaligned? Neck pain, back pain, headaches, sciatica, and more. But sometimes pain doesn’t occur until the damage accumulates. Chiropractic can help to gently re-align, reduce strain, and restore function to this delicate spinal system. When was the last time you had your spine examined by a doctor of chiropractic?

Drink Aloe for Weight Loss

Aloe Vera’s weight loss properties are becoming better known. This plant stands above the rest of nature’s products as a detoxifying agent that helps the body remove waste. This is largely due to one of its components called ‘aloin’, which taken in appropriate doses can help us achieve its beneficial cleansing properties. The Aloe plant also helps us burn fat by improving our metabolism and the production of fatty acids, which is undoubtedly a big help in the fight to rid our bodies of excess fat. Aloe promotes intestinal function and better allows us to eliminate toxins from the body.

Heal with Guasha

Guasha is an ancient healing technique used in traditional Chinese medicine. In the treatment, special oil is put on a particular area of the skin, and the therapist starts “scraping” the area repeatedly with a “scraper” (a specially designed instrument of jade or horn). Patients hardly feel pain, neither during nor after the treatment. This process can improve local microcirculation instead of causing tissue damage. In most cases the patient feels an immediate improvement in their condition particularly in their pain or sense of constraint.

Grass-Fed vs. Grass-Finished Beef

Grass-finished beef comes from cattle that has eaten nothing but grass and forage for their entire lives. Grass-fed, on the other hand, may be used to label meat from cattle that were started on a grass diet, but have received supplemental grain feed or are finished on a fully grain-based diet. Grass-finished beef is an excellent source of protein, iron, zinc, phosphorus, and selenium, as well as vitamins B6, B9, and B12. What’s more, research shows grass-finished meat is higher in cancer-fighting conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), desirable fatty acids like omega 3s, and nutrients like vitamin D, magnesium, and potassium.

Loneliness May Lead to Bad Health

Several studies have shown social isolation can negatively affect your health. This National Institute on Aging primer notes that loneliness can lead to high blood pressure, depression, and put you at greater risk of illness. That could mean more doctor’s visits and higher health care costs. And what if you or your loved one takes a fall with no one around? Beyond the physical pain, the financial implications could be high. And then there’s the emotional toll of social isolation, which can be even more devastating. These are all things to consider when deciding whether you or your loved one spend the next chapter of life at home or in a senior living community.

Words to Live By

“Every ceiling, when reached, becomes a floor, upon which one walks as a matter of course and prescriptive right.”

Should You Stay at Home?

An AARP study found that 90 percent of people over the age of 65 would rather live out their later years in their own home rather than move into a senior living community. That’s understandable. Home is comfortable. Home is a part of us. But consider the risk of isolation posed by staying at home. Maybe you or your loved one don’t get around as well as you used to, or maybe driving is no longer an option. Studies have shown that social interaction goes a long way toward boosting health and happiness, especially among seniors, and living at home can be a barrier to an active social life.
