What is Caregiver Burn Out?

If you are a care giver of a loved one, it’s important to also take care of yourself. Signs of burn out are: withdrawal from family and friends; feeling blue, irritable and helpless; changes in sleep patterns; getting sick more often; and feelings of resentment. What can you do to support yourself? Talk to a trusted friend or co-worker; set reasonable goals; be realistic about your loved one’s disease, especially if it is a progressive disease such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Use respite care services when you need a break or while you are assessing care plan changes.

Coping with Holiday Stress

The holiday season is a special time but for some, it can be a time of grief and sadness. Sometimes the holidays include stressful situations that lead to more time and money spent on gambling than anticipated. If you plan on gambling during the holidays, here are a couple of strategies to keep things fun and mitigate the risks: Don’t gamble alone; keep it a social activity; leave your bank cards and credit cards at home; and finally, set time and money limits and stick to them. If you feel the need for a distraction such as gambling to escape the holiday stress, look for a healthier alternative: take in a movie, go out for dinner, connect with a friend and please feel free to call our 24/7 confidential helpline at 1-888-795-6111. Our counsellors and support workers are here to help!

Product Review:

Serrapeptase, the little miracle enzyme! Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme, which means it breaks down long protein chains into amino acids that the body needs. These enzymes bind to the alpha 2 macroglobulin in our plasma where it is shielded from the immune system while retaining its enzymatic activity. They are then free to roam through the blood stream seeking to break down hard protein (non-living tissue), fibrin surfaces, scar tissue, granuloma, and even thin out mucous to ease conditions such as chronic sinusitis.

It’s been proven to be a safe and effective alternative to NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen) and should be taken on an empty stomach. The capsule must be a special DRcap (Delayed Release capsule) or enteric coated capsule that allows the Serrapeptase to pass through the stomach to the small intestine where the enzyme is then released.

Get Moving

Did you know that exercise is one of the simplest, healthiest and most effective means of stress management? Movement of any kind is physically, mentally and emotionally beneficial. If we remain physically active we can counteract the body’s natural stress response. Among many other things, exercise rids the body of natural chemicals that are released during stress and releases endorphins that create a sense of well-being. Exercise is one of the best ways to get relief from irritability, depression, anxiety and anger so don’t let the rain get you down, just start moving. When exercise is not enough, speaking to a trained counsellor can be beneficial.

A River Runs Through It.

Do you dream of traveling to see different countries but loath the idea of long bus rides and packing and unpacking every day? River cruising may be the answer. Imagine drifting off to sleep to the gentle sound of the river and waking up refreshed in the heart of another European town or near a fishing village on the Mekong River. River cruising is a perfect choice for you if you are looking for a lovely, relaxing way to spend a holiday and to really experience the scenery and culture of each country you visit.

Flying Under the Radar!

Bowenwork® uses gentle, slow moves, which the body perceives as a weak stimulus, thus activating healing. We ‘fly under the radar’ of the body so as to not provoke a defensive response. When a traumatic event such as a fall occurs, the energy of the force of the fall is absorbed by the body. This energy must be released from the body or transformed for healing to occur. After each set of Bowenwork moves, the client is left to process at least two minutes before any other work is done. During this time, energy can dissipate freely or be transformed.
