Do Your Denture Need a Reline?
Dentures should be relined or renewed to maintain optimal fit, comfort, and functionality. Over time, changes in the jawbone structure occur, which can lead to a loose fit of the dentures. Relining involves adding new material to the base of the denture to adapt to these changes and restore a proper fit. Renewal becomes necessary due to wear and tear, which can result in deterioration of the denture’s material, affecting its effectiveness and appearance. Regular relining or renewal ensures that dentures remain snug, comfortable, and functional, allowing wearers to speak, eat, and smile with confidence.

Wealth of “Real Wellth”
Wealth is understood as having money and possessions (our net worth). However, you may have also heard that ‘money cannot buy happiness.’. By shifting the concept of wealth to “Wellth”, we shift the priority from finding the tangible/objective (wealth) to the internally realized/subjective (wellth), creating greater wellness and health for the individual and communities. By emphasizing “real,” we highlight that it is in the here and now, not focused on the future or past. Building wellness and health today makes us wealthy, which supports our idea of “Real Wellth” and why it needs to be a priority.
Hearing Loss and Balance
Hearing loss is one of several factors that can cause falls. Individuals who have even a mild degree of hearing loss are three times as likely to experience accidental falls. Studies have shown that wearing hearing aids improves balance compared to an individual who does not wear hearing aids but who has hearing loss. There are three major ideas for why hearing loss can affect our balance: 1) Hearing loss causes less awareness of our environment, which means less awareness of people or activities around us; 2) hearing loss decreases spatial awareness, which makes it harder to know where you are compared to your surroundings; and 3) hearing loss uses more brain energy, which means there is less energy for balance.
Seniors & Heart Health
Maintaining heart health is crucial for seniors, as aging increases the risk of cardiovascular conditions like heart disease, high blood pressure, and arrhythmias. Lifestyle changes can significantly improve heart health in older adults. Regular physical activity, such as walking or swimming, strengthens the heart and lowers cholesterol. A heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins helps manage weight and blood pressure. Avoiding tobacco, limiting alcohol, and managing stress are essential. Seniors should monitor heart health through routine check-ups, addressing conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure promptly. Early detection and healthy habits promote longevity and overall well-being.

Cold Weather Denture Care
Winter is not everyone’s favourite time. Even though it’s cold outside, it is important to have regular visits with your denturist. Here are tips for denture users: *The cold weather can dry out dentures, so keep them moist by storing them in water or denture solution when not in use. *Avoid using hot water, as it may warp them. *Brush daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive cleaner. *Cold air may cause gum sensitivity, so rinse with warm water before reinserting your dentures. *Staying hydrated helps prevent dry mouth, ensuring your gums stay healthy throughout the season.
