Black seed (Nigella sativa) is the new preferred therapeutic oil prized for its immune-boosting and antibacterial benefits to reduce respiratory, viral, and digestive ailments. Anecdotally, it’s been said to “cure everything except for death!” And the research is starting to back that up. Studies show that this versatile oil can regulate the immune system, benefit blood sugar, and has anti-cancer activity (Butt et al, 2010). Look for a coldpressed black seed oil and for a synergistic blend, use oregano oil and black seed oil together and with vitamins A and D added to give your immune system the best tools to beat the bugs!
Wishing You Peace and Joy
As we approach the Holiday Season, we may experience a mixture of both excitement and trepidation. Although we may enjoy attending social gatherings, we may also be nervous about talking to people we don’t know. We may be excited about creating a gift giving wish list but are frustrated that we may not have the necessary funds. This mixture of contrasting emotions can contribute to the challenge of the season. Be patient with yourself. Listening to your heart and acting from that authentic place can bring you closer to the peace that the Season represents.
Meet the Professional
Ever since local mixed media artist Sally Towers-Sybblis was a child, she had a passion for creating. She believes her process is simple: start and the painting will evolve and finish itself. Sally loves to use colour in her work; the more colour, the happier the work becomes. “I want my work to reflect a sense of fun and spontaneity!” she says. It’s important to Sally to include the community in her work, so she teaches classes on a regular basis. “Sharing my techniques gives others that same sense of gratification and expression that I receive from creating,” she explains.
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini yoga is a form that blends several styles into one and emphasizes nerve strength over flexibility. Nerve strength means having the energy to meet the demands of the day and to be graceful in life’s challenging moments. A Kundalini yoga class incorporates spinal work, breath techniques, sound and rhythm. Students describe the effects as being both energizing and relaxing.With all of the different styles of yoga available there is a style suitable for every personality, fitness level and health condition. In the new year, consider trying various yoga styles to determine what might be the best fit for you.
Best Treatments for Acne
Acne can destroy a person’s spirit, self-confidence, and well-being. In 2015, it was estimated that acne affected 633 million people globally. Although less common in adulthood, it persists in nearly half of affected people into their twenties and thirties, and a smaller group continue to have difficulties into their forties. There are several safe and effective acne treatments available, such as chemical facial peels; steroid injection of deep acne cysts (often takes them away in three days); medically supervised acne treatments; oral antibiotics; and advanced skin care regimes designed to target and eradicate unsightly acne.
Natural Product Review: EMP Advanced
I recently discovered Truehope EMP Advanced and found this product works well to normalize brain function around mood and sleep issues. Although it’s not necessarily the complete answer for everyone, my wife and I both notice the difference. Many people are not functioning near their optimal levels due to sub-optimal nutrient levels in their diets. I think Truehope EMP Advanced is the most dopaminergic among all the multivitamins I’ve ever tried. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that controls the brain’s reward centers and a deficiency can result in addictive behavior and low brain energy in general (hard to get motivated to get out of bed in the morning), and at it’s severest, Parkinson’s Disease. Truehope EMP Advanced appears to help modulate dopamine levels in the brain.
With Grace and Ease
Welcome each day with grace and ease. Grace is the state we are in when we are doing nothing, just being who we are at our best. Not pushing or making it happen, instead allowing and in that which is ready to be received. Who we encounter and what we experience throughout the day is not always in our control, but how we approach and take it in is our choice. When we meet life with frustration and resentment, the energies boomerang back and a viscous circle incurs as the energies get trapped. When we raise our own internal vibration, shifting to meet that of grace and ease, it gives us hope, connects us to our humanity and makes us more generous and loving beings. Allowing life to run smoother, welcoming in small gifts of connection along the way.
Gift Yourself a Stress-Free Christmas
The holiday season can be fun or stressful. The choice is up to you! Here are some tips to help you survive:
1. Avoid going into debt trying to show people how much you love them.
2. If going home to see your family damages your mental health, don’t go.
3. It is OK to set boundaries and say NO to family and friends.
4. Choose happy and calm over anything – don’t fall into the crazy Christmas mindset.
5. Extend your kindness to others, for many are facing battles you know nothing about.
6. Practice self-care and make time for you.
Men’s Pelvic Health Part 1
Pelvic Floor physiotherapy can be extremely helpful to address some of the challenges that men may have when their pelvic floors are not working properly. This may include:
* Post-proctectomy incontinence
* Erectile dysfunction
* Needing to urgently or frequently go to the toilet to pass urine or bowel motions
* Accidental leakage or urine/bowel
* Difficulty emptying your bladder or bowel
* Pain in the bladder, bowel, or in your back near the pelvic floor area. These problems should properly be assessed and like all exercises, are most effective when individually tailored and monitored. Tightening or strengthening pelvic floor muscles may not be the most appropriate treatment for all conditions.

Ice or Heat?
One of the most frequently asked questions of physiotherapists is: ice or heat?
Ice is for injuries — calming down damaged superficial tissues that are red, hot, and swollen. The inflammatory process is a healthy, normal, natural one that, unfortunately, also happens to be incredibly painful. Be careful not to ice too long, as frostbite can occur.
Heat is for muscles, chronic pain, and stress — taking the edge off of symptoms like muscle aching and stiffness.
Generally speaking, ice is for fresh injuries, and heat is for stiff, aching muscles. But it’s best to seek advice from your physiotherapist as to which is best for your condition.
