Everyone Has a Slice of Genius

YES, everyone has a slice of genius! There is a problem attached to it! Your slice of genius does not fit in with the status quo. Your slice of genius does not fit in with social norms and expectations. Your slice of genius does not fit in with the opinions of most if not all your family and friends. Your slice of genius is a slice from a different pie! It’s yours! You own it! You can do with it what you want. A slice is like a wedge. You can use your slice of genius as a wedge that wedges The DOOR of OPPORTUNITY open so you can jump into your world of GREATNESS. You can also show and share your slice of genius with people who don’t understand and they will devour it nibble by nibble as they try to fit you INTO their mold, their perception of the world and confined by their limiting beliefs. So what’s it going to be? What are you going to do with your slice? Do you know what your slice is? If not, do you have a strategy to discover it? The QUALITY of your life is determined by what you do with your slice. As the saying goes – “Life’s a slice!”

Chemicals in Drinking Water

Chlorine is essentially bleach. And what comes out of most municipally delivered faucets is quite actually, a mild bleach solution. Is it healthy to drink bleach? Does your body require any certain amount of chlorine to remain healthy? Feel free to consult a physician on that somewhat rhetorical question.

The contamination of water is directly related to the degree of contamination of our environment. Rainwater flushes airborne pollution from the skies, and then washes over the land before running into the, rivers, aquifers, and lakes that supply our drinking water. Liquid chlorine is mixed into drinking water and swimming pools to destroy bacteria. The good news is, you don’t have to drink it anymore. The most practical and efficient method for removing chlorine, chlorine by-products, and taste and odor problems, is to filter it with granular activated carbon (GAC) or other suitable chemical-removing filter media, such as KDF.

A Solution for Cellulite

When we fall from balance, the cells in the body are at war with gravity. The tissue has to find a way to keep us upright, and it does this by gripping on to the bony surfaces to create stability. This is what creates the appearance of cellulite. Fascia curls around the bones in our legs, gripping the bone and curling more and more as the fascia ‘freezes’ and increases in size. The ‘frozen’ fascia pulls the skin down toward the bone in the leg. This causes a ‘dimpling’ of the skin on the surface, creating cellulite.

The solution to cellulite is to melt the fascia in the legs. To do this we use the block with block therapy and diaphragmatic breathing. As we melt through the frozen fascia in the leg, it releases the pressure on the skin, therefore reversing the ‘dimpling’. The skin becomes more healthy and vibrant, looking younger and the cellulite begins to vanish.

Low Back Pain?

Whether it be playing hockey or watching our Jets for hours on the couch; the typical ‘hockey back pain’ is usually a hip flexor muscle strain; the infamous, anatomical, Psoas muscle group. (Pronounced: So-as). The Psoas is a hip flexor located deep in the lower abdomen/pelvis attaching the femur to the pelvis and lumbar spine. The lumbosacral nerve plexus runs through it. Prolonged sitting, repetitive flexed or bent over activity, and a lack of exercise can shorten the Psoas. When we stand after sitting for a while, the shortened Psoas pulls the lumbar spine forward into increased lordosis or that inward curve. A stiff, achy or painful low back & sciatic pain is often a result. Slow and purposeful stretching by the dynamic lunge can help, but know your Biomechanics at work, home and play.

Exercise is the Best Medicine!

It is cheap, you are not putting a foreign substance into your body, it is self-administered at a time that is convenient for you (24/7), it’s fun AND, oh yah, it helps to optimize the workings of nearly every bodily function. There must be a catch, you say, no “medicine” is that good!! Well, it is that good if you know the right exercises to do. You can’t just get a list of exercises from the Internet or from your friend and voila! You’re good to go. Exercise needs to be the right exercise for you. That means it needs to be appropriate for your physical status, your age, your goals, your health, and your aches and pains. It needs to be balanced so that you are not too strong and tight in some muscles and weak in others. To avoid negative side effects and get the best benefits from exercise, see a physiotherapist for the exercise program that is right for you.

The treatment is painless and non-invasive, and has virtually no side effects. LILT is simply light energy, which penetrates the tissue, where it interacts with cells resulting in the restoration of normal cell function. In other words, LILT allows the body to heal itself naturally. Why live with pain? Make natural pain relief your first choice to improve your quality of life and live happy, healthy and pain free!!

Drink Water after a Massage

Drink plenty of water after a massage. Drinking sufficient water is important at any given time but drinking water after a massage is especially important because it helps the kidneys and other organs flush out the toxins that are released during the process. Massage therapy is also dehydrating, pumping interstitial fluids back into the lymphatic and circulatory systems and from there to the kidneys. Water also keeps the muscles and other tissues of the body hydrated and healthy. Coffee and tea, although considered fluids, are not a substitute for water because they are considered diuretics, meaning they promote the production of urine thus increasing the excretion of water from the body and causing further dehydration. Alcohol is also a diuretic. So plain old fashioned water is the best means of optimizing the benefits of your massage. Stay healthy!

The Benefits of Massage Therapy

The benefits of massage therapy have been documented throughout history dating back to 2000 BCE, in writing. From changing the viscosity of blood and plasma, to releasing chemicals and hormones throughout the body, the physiological and psychological effects are diverse and detailed. Physiologically, massage is effective in managing pain, circulation (blood flow and pressure), lymphatic flow and drainage, the musculoskeletal system (muscles, joints and posture), respiratory function and boosting the immune system. Psychological effects include reducing stress (which is a contributing factor to illness and disease), anxiety and depression and even increasing alertness. From reducing joint and muscle rigidity in people suffering from Parkinson’s disease to alleviating headaches in individuals experiencing temporomandibular joint dysfunction, massage therapy just may be the key to increasing a person’s quality of life. Research has even demonstrated the effectiveness of massage therapy in helping relieve some of the symptoms experienced by cancer patients.

Pet Health: Canicross

Canicross is the sport of running with your dog. Let’s face it. When it comes to running, six legs are better than two. Running with your dog is a great way to enjoy the world, get fit, and bond with your dog. However, before you get started here are some tips.

Tip #1 – You want to check with your family doctor and your dog’s veterinarian to make sure you and your dog have no restrictions when it comes to running.

Tip #2 – Making sure you have the proper gear such as a running harness for your dog, a bungee tether that connects you and your dog and a thick belt that lessens the load on your lower back. Having proper clothing and shoes are excellent tools for preventing injuries.

Tip #3 – Do not be a weekend warrior. Start slow, be consistent and build up to a fitness goal for both human and dog.
