Perineural Therapy

Chronic pain is a common concern for many patients, and I often collaborate with chiropractors, acupuncturists, physiotherapists, and massage therapists to provide comprehensive care. As a naturopathic doctor, I also focus on foundational health, including diet, stress management, sleep, exercise, diagnostics, and hormone optimization. One effective treatment for pain is Perineural Therapy, which involves injecting a dilute dextrose solution around nerves to reduce inflammation. This therapy targets TRVP-1 receptors, which are involved in nerve inflammation and pain signaling, offering significant relief for those suffering from chronic pain.

Manage Osteoarthritis with Laser Therapy

Osteoarthritis is a leading cause of disability and mobility issues in older individuals. Studies have found laser therapy to be helpful at improving pain, disability, and mobility in osteoarthritis. Exercise and education should provided as a first line of treatment for osteoarthritis. Laser can also be combined with rehabilitation exercises including the GLA:D program offered at Origin. If you would like to discuss treatment options for osteoarthritis, schedule an assessment with our team!

Ask The Expert

Q: Which is better for your eyes – making the font bigger on a cell phone, or using glasses instead to see it better? A: Those options aren’t necessarily bad for the eyes. Straining to see near objects can be uncomfortable and annoying, but a normal part of life for many people. If one cannot see up close because of poor focus, then proper glasses are often the best way to see fine detail in print and images. Enlarging the font will do in a pinch. If one’s vision is impaired from some other problem (cataract, for example), then magnification is sometimes needed as well. At Mosaic, we’ll work with you to make your visual life as comfortable as possible!

Kids’ Holiday Dental Care

With all of the fun and excitement of the holiday season, it can be easy to forget about dental hygiene essentials. Here are 5 tips for kids’ holiday dental care: 1) Eat fruits and veggies – make eating these foods fun and kids will enjoy them! Cut into shapes or create artistic plate presentations with them. 2) Drink plenty of water – it’s good to stay hydrated and water helps wash away sugar and food on your teeth. 3) Schedule brushing and flossing time. 4) Be sure to brush after snacking on those sugary treats to avoid cavities. 5) Schedule an end of year dental cleaning

Gift a Present of PRESENCE

Rita M Krebs knows presence. Although she is a Registered Social Worker (Counsellor), Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner, Professional Life Coach, Shaman/Master Healer and Reiki Master/Teacher, she maintains that the real training was through her journey of disassociation from complex childhood trauma. “We are not our trauma, we are simply cloaked in it – until we aren’t”. Rita creates a technology of healing that brings her clients results without reliving the past. “The sweet spot is when my clients become present to who they really are – “Presence” is the ultimate gift.”

Magnesium for a Good Night’s Sleep

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, many of us aren’t getting adequate rest. Magnesium is a vital mineral for promoting restful sleep, as it helps regulate neurotransmitters involved in calming the nervous system. By binding to GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) receptors, magnesium encourages relaxation, reduces anxiety, and prepares the brain for sleep. It also supports melatonin production, which regulates the body’s sleep-wake cycle. Magnesium’s role in muscle relaxation can ease physical tension, which further aids in unwinding before bed. Foods rich in magnesium—like leafy greens, nuts, and seeds—or supplements taken in the evening can enhance sleep quality, especially for those with deficiencies. Adequate magnesium promotes a deeper, more rejuvenating sleep.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a form of manual therapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of the craniosacral system. This system includes the brain, spinal cord, and the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects these structures. Our practitioners use light touch and gentle manual techniques to evaluate and influence the craniosacral system’s rhythm and mobility. The goal is to detect and facilitate the release of any restrictions, tension, or imbalances within this system, thereby improving the body’s self-healing and self-regulatory mechanisms. CST helps calm the nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress, which can be beneficial for people with anxiety and chronic tension.

Light Therapy for SAD

Light therapy is a common treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression that typically occurs during the darker months. It involves sitting near a specialized light box that mimics natural sunlight, usually in the morning for about 20-30 minutes daily. The bright light helps regulate melatonin and serotonin levels, which influence sleep and mood. This treatment can reduce symptoms like fatigue, sadness, and lethargy by resetting the body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm. Consistency is key for effectiveness, and many find it boosts their mood, energy, and focus. Light therapy is a convenient, non-invasive option for SAD relief.
