No matter how clean, organic, and healthy you eat, if your body isn’t able to digest, absorb, and process essential nutrients properly, you are not benefitting from your efforts.
To do this, your stomach needs to fully digest, your intestines need to completely absorb, and your liver needs to properly process the food you eat.
One of the simplest ways to correct and improve any issue you may have with the digestive process is through nutritional testing.
If a weakness is found in a specific organ, nutritional supplementation can be added to your diet to improve the digestive process and in turn, help you benefit from your wise choices.
Does Nutrition Affect Eye Health?
Nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining healthy eyes throughout life. Vitamins A, C, and E help protect corneal and retinal cells from damage, while zinc supports night vision and overall retinal health. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish and flaxseeds, contribute to tear production and may reduce dry eye symptoms. Lutein and zeaxanthin, present in leafy green vegetables, help filter harmful blue light and lower the risk of age-related macular degeneration. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats supports clear vision and long-term eye health. Regular hydration and limiting processed foods further protect visual performance.
Easter Blooms Brighten the Season
As Easter approaches, flowers play a meaningful role in celebrations, symbolizing renewal and joy. Traditional favorites like Easter Lilies and Tulips bring vibrant color and fragrance to homes, while fresh spring arrangements make thoughtful gifts. Many florists highlight seasonal blooms in April, offering a variety of options for decorating or sharing with loved ones. Choosing locally sourced flowers ensures freshness and supports Canadian growers. Whether as a centerpiece or a simple gesture of kindness, flowers add a special touch to Easter traditions, reminding us of nature’s renewal and the beauty of the season.
Counselling for Children:
What to Expect at Different Ages
When people think of counselling, they often picture adults sitting and talking through their feelings. But counselling for children looks quite different, and for good reasons. Children express and make sense of their emotions in ways that fit their biological and developmental stage, and their capacity to describe what they’re feeling expands as they grow.
At Moose Jaw Family Services, our counsellors tailor their approach to meeting children at their developmental level. The goal isn’t just to talk – it’s to help children feel safe, understood, and in control of their own healing.
How Age Affects Counselling
A child’s age and stage of development shape how they participate in counselling.
• Young children (around ages 4–7) often don’t yet have the language or self-awareness to describe their feelings or experiences through words. That’s why they do best with counsellors who have specialized training in working with this age group. These therapists understand child development and use approaches like Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and storytelling—powerful tools that allow children to express themselves in ways that feel natural and safe. Through play, children show how they see the world and how they feel. A trained counsellor can gently help them make sense of those feelings and develop healthy ways to cope.
• Middle childhood (ages 8–11) is when children start to better understand emotions, cause and effect, and relationships. Counsellors might combine play and creative activities with more structured conversations. Kids this age can start learning concrete coping skills — such as naming their emotions, using breathing techniques, or practicing problem-solving.
• Teens and young adults (12 and up) are often ready for more traditional “talk therapy.” They’re developing a stronger sense of identity and independence, and counselling gives them space to process complex emotions, relationships, and choices in a safe and confidential environment.
The Importance of Consent and Control
For counselling to be effective, children need to feel that they are part of the decision — not that something is being done to them. Even younger children can be invited into the process by explaining what counselling is in simple terms, asking for their permission to participate, and allowing them to make choices during sessions.
When children feel they have control, such as choosing how to share, when to take breaks, or what to talk about, they are more open, engaged, and likely to benefit. This sense of control helps build trust, especially for children who have experienced situations where they felt powerless.
Helping Children Feel Safe and Understood
Every child is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. What matters most is creating a space where a child feels heard, respected, and safe to be themselves. The counsellor’s role is to guide, support, and help the child find their own way forward – at their own pace.
When children are given the chance to participate in a way that matches their age, understanding, and comfort level, counselling can become a powerful experience that strengthens resilience, confidence, and emotional well-being.
Wild Rice: Nutrition Worth Noticing
Wild rice is a nutrient-dense food that often goes unnoticed, despite its meaningful health benefits. In Canada, millions of people are living with diabetes or prediabetes, and dietary choices play an important role in blood sugar management. Compared to many refined grains, wild rice has a lower glycemic impact and a higher fibre content, helping support more stable blood glucose levels. It’s also notably higher in protein than most grains, contributing to satiety and muscle health. Naturally rich in B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, and antioxidants, wild rice supports overall wellness – proving that sometimes the most powerful foods are also the most overlooked.

Quieting the Mind for Growth
Coaching is not advice, therapy, or counselling. Working with a coach is about supporting your self-awareness and building capacity to trust your inner wisdom to make the changes you desire. The Enneagram Personality Type System is one tool that can be used to deepen this self-awareness. The Enneagram works with your three centres of intelligence: your body, heart, and head. Our hearts are often protecting us from reliving past pains and our heads are often worrying about the future in a way that stops us from being in this moment. When we use our bodies to sense into this moment – we become grounded, allowing our hearts to open, and our minds to quiet – knowing what is needed.

Protecting Young Athletes
Children and teens are at higher risk for concussion due to developing brains and active sports participation. Proper helmet fit, good technique, strengthening the neck and improving neck function are key preventative measures. Chiropractic care helps by supporting spinal alignment and monitoring musculoskeletal health throughout the season. If a concussion occurs, chiropractors can work alongside other healthcare providers to reduce symptoms and support recovery. This March, prioritize your child’s spinal health. Routine chiropractic care helps keep young athletes resilient and reduces long-term complications from sports injuries. Prevention today means better brain and body health for their future.
Feed Your Ears for Better Hearing
Nutrition Month is the perfect reminder that small, daily choices can support long-term hearing health. Your ears rely on proper blood flow and cellular repair; both influenced by the nutrients you consume. Foods rich in zinc, vitamins A and C, and B-vitamins help protect against age-related hearing changes while boosting overall wellness. Try swapping in colourful vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to give your hearing a natural advantage. If hearing loss is already impacting your life, a simple hearing assessment can help you reconnect with the sounds that matter most.
