One of the most common postural issues we see in the office is forward head carriage (FHC). You may have also heard it referred to as text neck, tech neck, iHunch, forward head posture, or dowager’s hump. This nasty habitual neck posture has been steadily rising due to our smartphone addiction and computer use. It is a postural issue that many people do not know that they have! Over time, this condition can lead to muscle imbalances as the body adapts to hold the head up straight. Every inch your head goes forward adds 10lbs of stress and pressure to your spine.

Counseling’s Crucial Role in Healing
November 25th marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, emphasizing the vital role of counseling in ending abuse and aiding survivors. In a world where women endure physical, emotional, and psychological violence, counseling serves as a beacon of hope and healing. Counselors offer a safe space for survivors to share, heal, and regain strength. Through empowerment, validation, and guidance, counselors help women regain control and confidence. Today, let’s honor the tireless dedication of counselors globally, working relentlessly to eradicate violence against women, one healing session at a time, and reminding us of the steps toward a safer, more equitable world for all.
Leaving Dependency Behind
Many drug and alcohol addictions stem from a lack of healthy coping mechanisms when dealing with life’s numerous stressors. Drugs and alcohol provide short-term escape solutions, but often lead to long-term health complications. Laser acupuncture can help with symptoms of withdrawal associated with drug and alcohol addictions, such as cravings, body aches, headaches, nausea, sweating, and muscle cramps, making the process of quitting less stressful. Coupled with lifestyle changes such as the use of nutritional supplements and beneficial herbs, and exercise, laser acupuncture can lead you on a road to recovery that will include more self-care and better coping skills.

November serves as a month of empowerment
for men, a time to shine a light on the men in your life, whether it’s regarding their physical health or mental well-being. Let your light shine brightly this month as you show your support for the men you care about. It’s simple and a wonderful way to reconnect with the special men in your life. It all begins with a question: “How are you doing?” Show them that you genuinely care about their answer. One impactful way to show your support is to connect the men in your life to the resources they may need. Mental health has a wealth of support options, whether it’s reaching out to us at Moose Jaw Family Services to connect with our dedicated counselors or calling 211 for a list of all available community resources. This could also be the perfect opportunity to encourage them to see a doctor this November. Be courageous and unafraid to let your light shine during Men’s Health Month. While we men may not always express it, we genuinely appreciate spending more time with our loved ones. So, this month, take some extra time for the men in your life—you might just save a life or two.

At MJFS, we’re all about looking at the bigger picture when it comes to wellness. And when we talk about men’s well-being, we can’t forget the impact that fathers have on their children’s lives. Research has confirmed what we’ve already known – fathers are not just side characters; they’re superheroes in their children’s lives. Engaged, caring fathers play a pivotal role in shaping their children’s behavioural and psychological well-being, leaving an enduring mark on the entire family and therefore, their communities.
Shining a Light on Men’s Health:
Shining a Light on Men’s Health: November, A Month of Empowerment
Here at Moose Jaw Family Services, we understand the profound significance of November to individuals around the world. It’s a month where we come together to support the men in our lives during Men’s Health Month. November holds diverse meanings for different people, but, as a man writing this, two pivotal aspects come to mind: Remembrance Day, which honors our family members who bravely fought in World War II, and Men’s Health. This month, we celebrate survivors and stand in solidarity with those still battling testicular cancer while also remembering those we’ve lost.
November has transformed into “Movember” for many, and you might wonder about this change. It’s because men across the globe grow mustaches in support of men’s health. Specifically, the movement seeks to raise awareness for men facing challenges like testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and men’s mental health. With the odds of getting testicular cancer standing at approximately 1 in 270 men, the chances are high that you know someone in your life—a father, uncle, brother, cousin, or friend—dealing with this condition. Men grow mustaches to spark conversations about men’s health, reaching more people each year.
