How often have you heard or read about a plea for help when tragedy befalls a family? I see it all too often. And it’s great that such a service exists for some people for which I have great sympathy. However, we owe it to ourselves and families to anticipate the potential realities of unexpected death, disability or critical illness. There is a great tool available to most of us to offset the ugly outcomes of these realities in the form of insurance. Don’t leave it to the goodwill of strangers, protect you and your family by preparing for the worst, while living your best.
Winter ‘Blues’
As the days get shorter, and the nights get longer, many people start to feel the effects of the lack of light. Out on the West Coast of Canada, we also get a lot of overcast skies. These realities of our environment can sap our energy and bring about feelings of general moodiness. This is a normal experience for many people, and there are things you can do about it. Self-care at this time of year is important. One of the recommendations is to find a full spectrum light and get some quality time in front of it. Use it while reading, working at the computer, or even when watching television!
Permanent Treatment For Chronic Pain
Patients I have been treating often ask me how Prolozone works because they want to explain to others why their chronic pain has improved significantly. Prolozone is a connective tissue injection therapy of collagen-producing natural substances and ozone gas which can reconstruct damaged or weakened connective tissue in and around joints. The technique causes repair and tightening of the lax structures, partially torn connective tissue, ligaments and halts the pain/inflammation cycle. This allows for better circulation and increased blood flow carrying nutrition and hydration to the damaged tissues. Prolozone therapy offers a non-surgical ligament reconstruction option and is a permanent treatment for chronic pain.
Music for Mood
Many of us have experienced how music lifts us up when we are feeling down. What sort of music gives us this lifting-up effect? Mozart may work for one person, Alice Cooper for another, and Broadway for yet another. There is no accounting for taste, right? An alternative notion is that we match low feelings with music that evokes those feelings, e.g., melancholic music. It would be as if someone who really cared about us keenly listened to our story. We’d melt into their embrace, feeling safe to let the feelings out. Suddenly unburdened, we feel lighter.
Show up Consistently for your Body
It’s that busy time where everyone is trying to use their benefits before the year ends! A great self-care plan for the new year could be to pre-book your massage appointments. It’s amazing how quickly your body can get into a groove and look forward to that regularly booked session, whether it’s every 4-5 weeks or every second month. This can be very preventative, and if you do wind up with an injury, it’s amazing how often it lines up with an upcoming appointment! It can be hard to book last minute at times, so anticipate your body’s needs and take care of yourself! You’re worth it!
What’s the Human Body-Field?
While traditional healthcare has primarily focused on physiology, we are now seeing that energy and information control biology. In fact, frontier science proves that there is a regulating field of energy and information that operates in the physical body at the subcellular level. At NES Health, they call this the Human Body-Field (HBF), and they have researched its functions and structures for more than 30 years. In that time, they have discovered that the root causes of physical problems are distortions and blockages in the body-field, which serves as a master control system for all physiological function.
Ask The Expert
Q: I had cataract surgery a few months ago and now I can’t see anything up close. Why is that? I thought I wouldn’t have to wear glasses.
A: Going through any type of surgery can be a bit overwhelming. Your surgeon likely mentioned the limitations of what the surgery (and lens implants) can do, but the reality sometimes doesn’t sink in until afterwards. You have a fairly normal result since your implants probably aren’t focused for close work. Ideally, your concerns should be brought up during your scheduled post-operative examinations.
Daily Routine Important for Seniors
People are afraid of the unknown. If an older adult is losing control over their physical abilities, independence, or cognitive abilities, their world gets filled with more and more unknowns. Establishing routine is extremely important for seniors. A daily routine offers a level of stability that individuals often enjoy, as it allows them to settle into a schedule that they understand. Doing the same basic activities like eating, dressing, and bathing at the same time every day is known to improve sleep quality. A predictable routine also helps to reduce stress and anxiety.
Finding our Team/Connection
With the holidays coming up, it is importance to acknowledge our human need for connection as important to our survival. Our brain’s hardwiring seeks connection with others in order to promote our safety. When we have connection, our brain is more relaxed knowing the species can survive a threat. Not belonging to a group can produce feelings of loneliness and increase the risk of illness or injury. Building our connections can come from various ways such as organized groups, team sports, religious communities, holiday dinners or simply engaging in quality connections with another human who shares a common experience with us.
Grief Can Be Confusing
Grief can catch us in surprising ways. When someone dies, our reaction may be gentle and accepting — or it may be unexpectedly unsettling. Our relationship with the person who has died may come up for reconsideration in uncomfortable ways. Old family concerns can arise, for example. Siblings may have had quite different experiences and argue about how the family story gets told. We may need to grapple with who this person really was, including the difficult parts of them. Counselling is a safe and neutral place to explore loss and find a story that makes sense.
