If you have a hearing loss, attending family gatherings with many people can be stressful. Here are three tips to ensure a sound-filled holiday season. 1. Spend time with family members one-on-one. 2. Try to sit next to someone who will be willing to keep you in on the conversation if you miss anything that has been said. 3. Book a check of your hearing aids before the holiday season starts to ensure they are working their best. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the laughter of your kids, grandkids, or family members as they open presents or sit around the table. Happy Holidays!
Mindful Moments This Holiday
The holidays can be joyful, but they often bring stress, especially around family gatherings. Expectations, busy schedules, and emotional triggers can leave us feeling drained instead of delighted. Practicing mindfulness helps us stay grounded in the present moment. Take a few deep breaths before responding, listen with compassion, and release the need for perfection. Remember, it’s not about creating a flawless holiday, but about being fully present with those you love. Give yourself permission to slow down, find gratitude in small moments, and approach each interaction with kindness…for others and for yourself. That’s the true spirit of the season.
Holiday Joy in Community
The Christmas season is a time for connection, warmth, and shared joy. Living in an independent senior community makes it even more special. Residents enjoy festive decorations, holiday concerts, and delicious meals without the stress of preparation or cleanup. There’s always company for card games, baking, or reminiscing over cocoa by the tree. With caring staff and a vibrant social calendar, no one feels alone during this magical time of year. Celebrating together, creating new memories, enjoying traditions, and feeling the true spirit of Christmas surrounded by friends who feel like family.

Staying Fit Through the Holidays
The holiday season doesn’t have to derail your fitness goals. Prioritize movement—aim for at least 20 minutes of activity daily, even if it’s a walk. Plan your workouts in advance and treat them like appointments. Be mindful of food without being restrictive; enjoy festive meals but balance them with nutritious choices. Hydrate well and sleep consistently to support recovery. Most importantly, stay accountable—whether through a coach, workout buddy, or habit tracker. Clean Eating Recipe
Cranberry-Cashew Energy Cups. 1⅔ c rolled oats; ¾ c unsalted cashew butter; ½ c unsweetened almond milk; ½ c 50% dried cranberries, chopped. 2 tbsp chia seeds; 1 tsp vanilla extract; ¼ tsp salt; ½ c dark chocolate chips; 1 tbsp coconut oil. Combine ingredients (leave chocolate & coconut oil aside). Divide mixture among prepared muffin cups (about 1½ tablespoons each); firmly press the mixture into the cup bottoms. Melt chocolate & coconut oil together until smooth and spoon mixture over the oat mixture in each cup. Refrigerate, uncovered, until chilled.
Twice-Yearly Dental Care for Pets
Getting your pet’s teeth ultrasonically cleaned every six months is an important part of maintaining their overall health. Ultrasonic cleaning uses gentle vibrations to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth and below the gum line, areas that regular brushing can’t always reach. This procedure helps prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and bad breath, all of which can lead to serious health problems if left untreated. Regular cleanings also make it easier to spot early signs of dental or oral issues. By keeping up with semiannual ultrasonic cleanings, you can ensure your pet’s mouth stays healthy, comfortable, and pain-free.

Ask The Expert
Q: My eyes hurt after using my desktop computer for only a couple of hours. Should I get a bigger monitor? A: That might help, but there are a couple of more common causes of achy eyes related to computer usage. Insufficient blinking is a normal tendency when staring at screens, and that can cause dryness and irritation. Another problem is poorly focussed vision, especially if you’re old enough to need reading glasses. Ask your eye doctor about how to remedy these issues. At Mosaic we specialize in helping with issues like these!
