Is Your Entire Home Accessible?

Everyone wants to comfortably access all areas of their home; for those with mobility issues, this can be challenging. Home elevators are the ultimate solution to make all levels of a home accessible. A through-floor elevator is a great addition to an existing home. It consists of a self-contained carriage that moves along a rail system through an opening in the floor. These units come in models that will suit single-standing users, multiple-standing users, and wheelchair users. Contact us for a free, no-obligation assessment.

Spring Refresh for Your Smile

Spring is a season of renewal — and your dentures deserve the same care. Over time, dentures can lose their fit as your gums naturally change. If your dentures feel loose, cause sore spots, or affect your speech, it may be time for a reline or replacement. Proper cleaning is also essential to prevent staining and odor. A professional denture check can improve comfort, chewing ability, and confidence. Start the season fresh with a secure, healthy smile that lets you enjoy meals and conversations comfortably.

Oak Bay Bosleys is here to help you care for your beloved companions. We have nutritious food, healthy treats, cozy beds, and toys that will soon become favourites. Last Thursday of the month is Seniors Day – Save 10%. Free Delivery for all orders over $100.

These Orthotics are Meant for Walking

Walking is great for your health and wellness. Recent research supports that walking approximately 7,000 steps per day—a more attainable goal than the traditional 10,000 steps—can reduce the risk of premature all-cause mortality by over 50% compared to a sedentary lifestyle. For individuals looking to reach this daily step goal, orthotics can be a critical tool in enabling consistent movement by improving comfort and confidence. Orthotics also improve balance, can help prevent overuse injuries like shin splints and tendonitis and help with pain and fatigue. Could you benefit from orthotics? Book an assessment today!

Sunshine, Nature and Social Activity

Spending time outdoors can be so rejuvenating, especially as the weather warms up and the sun gives us that extra energy boost. Joining a senior walking club is a great idea—it helps with physical health and also offers a chance to connect with others who share the same appreciation for nature. The reminder to bring the right gear, including comfortable shoes, a hat for sun protection, and a water bottle for hydration, is important too. If walking becomes too much, taking a break with a chair and just soaking in the surroundings sounds perfect.

Join WIN and Our Community of Care

Our resale shops, online store, and donations directly fund programs that support women, trans, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people through crisis, change, and rebuilding. Together, we create a steady system of care rooted in dignity, choice and practical support that is guided by our program participants themselves. Please consider joining us by shopping, volunteering, donating items or gifting a monetary donation in support of WIN’s community programs. You can learn more on our website.

Preneed Funds Protocal

Most BC funeral homes place preneed funds, financial arrangements made in advance to cover future funeral, burial, or cremation expenses, into an insurance policy where the funds are held until the passing occurs. These insurance policies are easily transferred, with no administration fees, to other funeral homes in case someone moves or changes their wishes. If the preneed policy is in trust, there is a 20% administration fee to transfer the fund to another funeral home. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding your preneed policy.

Light Therapy for Seasonal Depression

Light therapy can be an effective way to manage Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in seniors, especially during the darker winter months. SAD can cause low mood, fatigue, sleep changes, and loss of interest in daily activities. Light therapy involves sitting near a specially designed light box that mimics natural sunlight, usually for 20 to 30 minutes each morning. This exposure can help regulate sleep cycles and boost mood by supporting healthy circadian rhythms. For seniors, light therapy is noninvasive and easy to use. It is important to consult a healthcare provider before starting to ensure safe and proper use.

When Death Occurs

No matter if a death is sudden or if it is something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering. It is a good idea to be aware of what needs to be done within the first 24 hours after death before a death occurs. Contact us or visit our website for a comprehensive list of things that must be done. We are here to help.
