Song has grown with us through life’s many chapters. As babies our mothers sang to soothe and comfort, to get our attention and lull us to sleep as mother figures have done for generations. As toddlers we mimicked what we heard and began bonding with our families through singing songs about the world around us, silly songs, and songs to soothe us after bumps and bruises. These musical habits followed us as we aged to accompany skipping, discovering and courage. Many stepping stones are crossed in life which take us to new places, but our need for song is constant.
Loneliness May Lead to Bad Health
Several studies have shown social isolation can negatively affect your health. This National Institute on Aging primer notes that loneliness can lead to high blood pressure, depression, and put you at greater risk of illness. That could mean more doctor’s visits and higher health care costs. And what if you or your loved one takes a fall with no one around? Beyond the physical pain, the financial implications could be high. And then there’s the emotional toll of social isolation, which can be even more devastating. These are all things to consider when deciding whether you or your loved one spend the next chapter of life at home or in a senior living community.
Grief Can Be Confusing
Grief can catch us in surprising ways. When someone dies, our reaction may be gentle and accepting — or it may be unexpectedly unsettling. Our relationship with the person who has died may come up for reconsideration in uncomfortable ways. Old family concerns can arise, for example. Siblings may have had quite different experiences and argue about how the family story gets told. We may need to grapple with who this person really was, including the difficult parts of them. Counselling is a safe and neutral place to explore loss and find a story that makes sense.

100g pitted fresh dates. 140g roasted hazelnuts, skins removed. 75g digestive biscuits. 3 tsp. raw cacao powder. 1/2 tsp. vanilla. 150g dark chocolate, melted, cooled slightly. Place the dates in a heatproof bowl. Cover with boiling water. Set aside for 10 minutes. Drain. Place 60g of the hazelnuts, biscuits and cacao in a food processor. Process until coarsely chopped. Add dates and vanilla. Process until almost smooth but mixture still has a little texture. Roll into balls. Press a whole hazelnut into the centre of each and re-roll to enclose. Coarsely chop the remaining hazelnuts. Place melted chocolate in a bowl. Dip the balls in the chocolate to coat. Sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts. Place in the fridge. Enjoy.
ASEA for Athletes
It’s no secret to athletes that even a small increase in their ability to perform or recover can make a significant difference in achieving their goals. ASEA, the original and only Redox Signaling product available today, provides the body with two perfectly balanced sets of reactive molecules – the same molecules produced naturally by the mitochondria in every cell of our body. These vitally important molecules support the production of the ATP energy that fuels our cells, help activate antioxidants, minimize cellular damage, enhance cellular communication, and speed the healing response – all functions critical to athletic performance, endurance, and recovery.
Safe for the Holidays
Keeping you or your loved ones safe this holiday season should be a top priority. One way to do that is to use a personal medical alarm. Personal medical alarms are recommended not just for seniors, but for anyone who has a disability or who suffers from a medical condition that could put them at risk for falling while at home. Statistics show that 60% of falls occur in the home, so a personal medical alarm can help provide independence and a sense of safety for anyone who could be at risk. An alarm can also make a thoughtful gift!
