Travelling with Pets

If you decide to bring your pet along on a trip, take a few things into consideration. Air travel can be particularly dangerous for animals with “pushed in” faces like bulldogs or pugs. Their short nasal passages leave them especially vulnerable to oxygen deprivation. If flying with your pet is the only option, find out whether they can travel in the cabin with you. You must call the airline well in advance; there are limits to the number of animals allowed in the cabin. Travel is a stressful event for animals, so remember to plan ahead of time, and talk with your veterinarian if you have other concerns.

Is my Cell Phone Harming my Health?

You take care of yourself, you eat the right foods, and you exercise. But still, you are not feeling the vibrancy you once had. Perhaps you are part of a group of thousands of people worldwide who suffer from a condition known as electro-hypersensitivity (EHS). EHS results from over-exposure to electricity from building wiring and wireless technology. Not recognizing the health effects caused by EMFs can result in healthcare providers missing an important factor in their search for the causes of illness. The first step in assessing your health is to have an electromagnetic field (EMF) survey conducted of your home and office to reduce or eliminate EMFs.

Feeling Confident

When things are going well, confidence can be easy. But life has a way of heaping on challenges, and we can get swamped and find it hard to bounce back. It doesn’t take much: we can go from feeling able to cope, to feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, frozen, stuck, self-doubting, judged, easily upset, or just plain sad. How do you then handle your expectations, expectations from others and also from yourself? Counselling provides a safe, soothing, and non-judgemental place to talk about your situation and consider your options, to help you rediscover your confidence.

The Right Music at the Right Time

Music is a valuable form of nonverbal expression, speaking for us when we are at a loss for words. Music touches us and affects us on several levels, often all at once: emotional, physical and cognitive. For example, has there ever been a time when you were feeling incredibly sad and by some coincidence a song came on the radio that matched just what you were feeling? The right music at the right time has a way of touching the heart; It is our companion and we do not feel so alone. The music wraps us in its cloak like a loving parent and validates how we are feeling. We are sheltered by it.

Why Implant Supported Dentures?

With tissue-only supported dentures, the roots of teeth are removed. And over time, the bone heals and starts to shrink. This process is called resorption and is primarily why dentures get loose and why they periodically require rebasing or refitting. Reasons to consider implant-retained dentures:
• Quality of life improves because the extra support from the implants stabilize movement on the gum tissue
• Loss of jaw bone close to the implants is greatly reduced
• Your appearance or integrity of facial bones is supported, thereby preserving your full facial features
• Choice of more food groups and the ability to chew and digest is enhanced
• Renewed confidence in your smile is empowering and contagious!

Do the Side Hustle

Have you ever thought about a side hustle? A little something on the side that would not interfere with your regular job or home life, but would provide something extra to the budget so that you could use less credit or none at all. Perhaps you want to save for a holiday or new appliance, or to give yourself a spa treatment. What about dog walking, painting, house or pet sitting, tutoring, yard work, and even joining focus groups? With gift-giving season approaching, it would be great to have the funds ahead of time, and side hustles can help you avoid holiday debt.

Expressive Therapies for Children

Expressive therapies is a healing discipline that offers you the chance to paint, dance, act, play, and be musical to create change and build connection in your life. It is particularly effective with children, as they are far more likely to be comfortable and able to express their inner world with paint or puppets than with words. This can help children release feelings they may not know how to let go of otherwise. Expressive therapies can lower anxiety and stress, heal and strengthen relationships, regulate behaviour, as well as help with trauma, autism, and disabilities. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help in difficult times.

Take a Load Off

Maintaining workplace mental health is vitally important. Stats show that most people spend the majority of their waking hours at work. Using break times is one effective way to improve overall mental health and boost productivity! Oftentimes, busy schedules and looming deadlines prevent us from taking breaks when we need them most. A short time away, doing something we enjoy, helps to reduce stress and emotional exhaustion, while providing a fresh focus and the necessary energy to accomplish tasks. Stretching, walking, listening to music, and reading or watching something funny are all ways to help lighten the load.

Women Empowering Women

It’s time to raise awareness around new initiatives women are taking to help their female counterparts achieve their goals. The Victoria Women’s Expo is about empowering each other – whether a career stay-at-home mom, community volunteer, or CEO. The mission is to help women connect with each other to make the world a better place. The vision is propelling the effort to build a global community of strong women, who will help one another succeed, and mentor girls ascending the ladder into adulthood. Women helping women: it can be a real movement to grow a sisterhood for a better tomorrow.

Spring Fever and Vitamins

There seems to be two ‘end of winter’ or ‘spring fever’ explanations. The oldest refers to a couple of centuries ago, when Dr. Lind and the Royal British Navy made us very aware of scurvy, lemons and limes, and eventually vitamin C. The other explanation refers to seasonal affective disorder, resulting from months of little to no sunshine and low vitamin D. One feels unwell, fatigued, and depressed. Today, we have light box therapy and counsellors. As spring arrives, reflect on the winter and prepare for next year as you enjoy the sunshine now. Learn how to feel your best!
