Eating for the Season
According to traditional Chinese medicine, all living beings are viewed in relation to the surrounding environment. The Chinese widely believe that we are what we eat, and most dietary guidelines follow nature. According to traditional Chinese medicine philosophies, if we eat seasonal foods that are similar in nature to the external environment, we remain in harmony with the environment, adapt better to changes in the season, and stay healthy. In autumn, the dry, colder weather usually causes an itchy throat, and dry skin, so we need to eat to promote the production of body fluids, such as pumpkin, honey, and soups.
Why Go Vegan?
Interest in a totally animal-free diet is at an all-time high, with celebrities like Bill Clinton, Alicia Silverstone, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé leading the charge. There are so many amazing ways that veganism can improve our lives – fantastic health benefits, less stress on our environment, more efficient ways to use our resources, and many more! Vegan diets tend to be higher in vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and fibre. Healthy vegan diets are abundant in vitamins B1, C, and E; folic acid; magnesium; and iron, while also being low in cholesterol and saturated fats. And saving animals is an added bonus!
Jazz Up Your Brain
Attending to your brain function is not just an alternative consideration or luxury. It is fundamental to optimal brain health. When the network of your brain neurons works in synchrony, it is like having a wonderful jazz conductor supporting the engagement of the large number of musicians in their concert band. Your body needs the master regulator to listen, improvise, and interact with your body organs so you have a fluid system responding to the challenges of the moment. Brainwave Optimization supports your brain function in a comprehensive way so you can live your life with the dynamic “call and response” paradigm of jazz.

Trust your Gut
Your immune system works hard to protect you from injury, illness, and disease. This process usually involves inflammation, a natural response to stress, tissue damage, and harmful stimuli like viruses, bacteria, and toxins. Inflammation functions similarly to an engine warning light, alerting you to the presence of a problem through symptoms such as heat, pain, redness, swelling, and/or loss of function. 85% of the immune system is located in our gut. An anti-inflammatory diet rich in vitamins A, C, and E and the mineral selenium provides your gut with the ingredients it needs to bolster immunity and achieve optimal mental and physical health. Have You Had Your Probiotic Today?
Probiotics play a key role in the body by improving gastrointestinal functions, enhancing immunity, regulating hormones, protecting us from food-borne illnesses, controlling overgrowth of bad bacteria, and assisting in vitamin production & nutrient absorption. Here’s what to look for in your probiotic:
1. High culture count – Culture count refers to the total amount of live bacterial cultures in a single serving i.e. 50 Billion cfu (colony forming units)
2. Number of strains – There are over a thousand strains of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Look for multiple strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria.
3. Make sure the capsule is designed to protect probiotics – Enteric coated capsules remain intact throughout the harsh stomach environment and begin dissolving in the intestine where the pH is more alkaline.
All of these factors can be found in the Ultimate Flora line of probiotics by Renew Life.

Yoga Nidra for Better Sleep
Yoga Nidra is a practice in total conscious relaxation that separates the external awareness of the physical body through various stages. This results in a state where you are asleep with a whisper of awareness, relaxing both the mind and the body deeply. Daily practice of Yoga Nidra is life transforming!
During Yoga Nidra, we release multiple tensions: muscular tension (physical), emotional tension (suppressed emotions), and mental tension (excessive thoughts and stress).
Most people sleep without resolving their tensions (Nidra), but Yoga Nidra means sleep after throwing off your burdens. Wendy Anderson RYT, Yoga 10 Studio, Yoga10Studio.com, CourtenayMassageTherapy.com
GMO Concerns
The world must consider the effects of genetically modified foods (GMOs). Dr. Patrick Gentempo’s recent series, GMOs Revealed, exposes their potential toxicity to human and environmental health, such as an increase in autoimmune diseases in humans.
We eat plants from seeds saturated in herbicides, which have decimated our bee colonies. GMO corporations’ answer to bees that cannot tolerate herbicides is to replace them with a stronger variety from Africa, and add DNA from other sources.
I encourage you to start researching GMO products and push for GMO foods to be labelled properly.

Dreaded Headaches
With the fast pace of modern lifestyle, an increasing number of people suffer from headaches. There are several types of headaches: migraine, tension, cluster, and menstrual headaches. Some headaches are felt on top of the head, on the temples, or over the sinus cavities. Others radiate from the neck to the eyes, on the forehead, and the whole head. There are numerous causes for headaches to develop. The cause of a headache isn’t necessarily in the head. Problems in other parts of the body also contribute to headaches. They may be caused by an ear, sinus, or throat infection. In addition headaches occur from whiplash, stress, tension, and hormones. Improper posture, weak digestion, and TMJ dysfunction also induce headaches. It’s necessary to identify what’s causing the headache in order to help relieve the pain. Since the causes and symptoms of headaches are so different, headaches need to be assessed and treated according to the individual’s condition. Dr. Brigitte Tetrault Dr.TCM, RAc.
