The Power of Strength & Nutrition

As we age, taking care of our bodies becomes even more crucial. Strength and nutrition play vital roles in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise and a balanced diet can significantly improve our physical and mental well-being. Engaging in strength training exercises helps preserve muscle mass, increase bone density, and improve overall body strength. Simultaneously, proper nutrition provides the necessary nutrients and energy to support our body’s functions, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and enhance cognitive abilities. At Body Tempo Health and Fitness, we understand the importance of strength and nutrition as we age. Contact us to find out more.

Create Your Own Masterpiece

I love playing with my food so it’s a rarity that I make the exact same thing twice. If I like a recipe, I will remake it with a twist. I usually add more veggies. While playing within the guidelines of a recipe; add your favourite spice, condiment, veggie, grain or protein to make it fun. If you have allergies, learn to substitute ingredients. I like to think of cooking as making art. You can follow techniques and colour pallets that others have used but add a little creativity and you’ll have endless opportunities to make masterpieces. Learning to play with your food is the fun part.

Your Personal Pharmacist

Do you have a personal pharmacist on your wellness team? A personal pharmacist pays close attention to your needs and provides personalized care. Whether it’s managing your diabetes, heart health or another chronic condition, they are invested in your health. Your personal pharmacist can help to make sure your medication is the right fit and introduce you to tools that make day-to-day medication management easier. With the expanded role of pharmacists, they can assess and prescribe medication for certain minor conditions that do not require a doctor’s visit. When you have a minor condition, visit your pharmacist for a free assessment.

Do You Feel Rested?

If you aren’t getting enough sleep, you may want to find out why. Most adults require seven to eight hours of sleep each night. According to the Mayo Clinic; Adequate, quality rest each night is essential for good health. Sleep provides the foundation for all our daily habits and decisions. A lack of quality sleep can negatively impact our mood as well as our ability to focus on daily tasks. Some suggestions for better sleep include moderate exercise, avoiding caffeine and consulting a Certified Body/Emotion Code Practitioner who can help you release any unprocessed negative (trapped) emotions that are disturbing your sleep.

When It’s Not Just Aging

While it’s true that some health conditions are more common with age, there are some symptoms that should be discussed with your doctor. 1. Memory loss – this can sometimes be the result of medications, vitamin deficiencies and some disorders. 2. Vision problems – getting treatment early for certain vision problems like glaucoma can prevent serious damage. 3. Tooth loss – getting regular dental care can help seniors avoid tooth loss. 4. Depression – certain health conditions and medications can make depression symptoms worse. This problem can be treated professionally. 5. Weakness – a good exercise program can help prevent loss of muscle mass.

Live Each Day as if it’s Your Last

Albert Einstein says: “There are only two ways to live your life; one is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is a miracle”. What would it take for YOU to live each day as if it was your last? What would need to change? Who would you spend it with and how would you choose to spend your time? Anything you would want to resolve, share, create or impart? What would you want to savor and fully enjoy on your last day on earth in this body? Collect all this precious wisdom and begin living it daily. Saying yes fully and unapologetically to what brings you joy and no thank you to what depletes and drains you. Daring to live and love fully!

Random Acts of Kindness

Research shows that supporting others will help you feel connected and give both you and the person you are helping a healthy dose of oxytocin supporting overall mental well-being. So try one of these suggestions to be well. 1. Write a short letter of gratitude to someone, set up a time to meet them and read it to them. 2. Buy an order for the person behind you in the drive through. 3. Make a friend/colleague a meal. Do an unexpected chore for a family member, colleague, or friend. Give someone a book that you like. Leave a “Have a Great Day” note on a neighbour’s car.
