Ticks and Lyme Disease

If you spend time in wooded, shrubby, or grassy areas, it’s important to check yourself for ticks. Deer ticks (aka black-legged ticks) carry bacteria that can cause Lyme disease. A “bull’s-eye” skin rash and flu-like symptoms are common signs of the condition. Lyme disease is typically treated with doctor-prescribed antibiotics. To avoid tick bites, avoid brushing against vegetation, wear light-coloured long-sleeved shirts and pants, and use insect repellent containing DEET. If you find an embedded tick, gently remove it using tweezers by pulling close to the skin and avoid squeezing the tick. Clean the bite wound thoroughly.

Funeral Pre-Planning with Memories

We’ve had the privilege of assisting many families with their funeral pre-planning. During the time we’ve spent with them, we’ve learned more about the reasons behind their decision to take funeral pre-planning seriously.

What We’ve Heard Over the Years

-Pre-planning my funeral was my way of showing my family just how much I love them.

-In pre-paying for my funeral arrangements, I’ve lessened the financial burden on those people I leave behind.

-I’m very independent and have always made all my own decisions.

-Some say I like to be in control of everything and they’re right!

-This way my family knows exactly what I want. No one has to get angry or fight, and no one has to feel guilty about making the wrong decision. When I’m gone, they will know what I want.

-I remember when my mother died. None of us kids knew what to do and absolutely none of us knew what she wanted. No one bothered to ask! I’m just not going to wait for my kids to ask me what I want. I’m going to tell them.

-I guess it’s because I want things done my way. I want to provide my funeral pre-arrangements to our local funeral home to make sure I get what I want.

These are just a few of the comments we’ve heard during funeral pre-arrangements. Chances are pretty good that some of these statements are true for you as well.

If any of the above reasons sound like you, Call Memories Chapel today at 204.727.0330 to learn about how to get your pre-planning decisions recorded.

Signs of Heat Stroke

As we know, Manitoba summer temperatures can reach 30+ degrees Celsius. This can pose a real problem for young children as well as older adults as their bodies can have trouble compensating to sudden changes in temperatures. Symptoms to monitor for while in the sun are excessive sweating, increased fatigue, altered mental state, slurred speech, weakness, dizziness, headache, or muscle cramps. If you suspect someone is suffering from a heat-related illness, try to get that person into a shaded area or indoors if possible, apply a cool dampened cloth to their head and extremities, and offer chilled fluids if the individual can safely swallow.

They’re now a multigenerational farm that grows a variety of quality vegetables. You can pick-up their delicious cucumbers and grape and hothouse tomatoes in our Produce Department.
