What Causes Chronic Inflammation?

Chronic inflammation is an ongoing immune response to something your body believes is damaging your cells. This involves increased blood flow to the damaged area and the release of antibodies and proteins. Chronic inflammation can have a negative impact on your tissues and organs and has been linked to diseases like cancer and heart disease. Some of the possible causes of chronic inflammation include long-term exposure to toxins, untreated causes of acute inflammation like injury or infection, and autoimmune disorders where the immune system attacks healthy tissue. Smoking, chronic stress, obesity, and alcohol use may also contribute to chronic inflammation.

Gardening Increases Mental Wellness

It is finally warming up outside, and many of us are itching to get out and enjoy the sunshine. Being surrounded by greens, digging in the soil, and connecting with your world in a very tangible way can be incredibly rewarding. Eating homegrown vegetables or creating a bouquet from the flowers you have grown brings with it a sense of accomplishment. Studies have also found evidence that being in green, or even being able to look out on a green landscape, is linked with better recovery from surgery, less anxiety and depression, better stress management, and many other positive effects.

Get Your Mouth Checked!

An oral health exam is critical to the maintenance of your overall wellbeing. You should have your mouth checked at least once a year for prevention and treatment of any ailments. Even if you don’t have any live teeth, it’s important to make sure there are no signs of infections or early signs of cancer, growths, or cysts, and that your dentures are fitting you well. Leaving problems untreated usually leads to pain, periodontal disease, or tooth loss, and could make treatment more difficult, so it’s best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them.
