Importance of Having a Grief Sherpa

Grief has the power to cleanse & heal or destroy & destruct. It can feel like a Tsunami that overpowers our entire system shaking us to our knees, affecting our core stability. A roller coaster that takes over our emotions, body and nervous system, reminding us that someone or something important has been lost. Our hearts broken open, in hope that they can begin to cleanse, heal, love and trust again. It offers the choice of stagnation or expansion depending on how we go about connecting to and with the pain. There is no easy way to walk through grief, its excruciating. Allowing someone you trust, that has walked the path before you helps to guide the way and shed light when the darkness feels too unbearable and heavy alone.

Physiotherapy After Pelvic Surgery

Surgery for conditions of the pelvic organs (bladder, prostate, uterus etc.) often impact the muscles inside the pelvis; the pelvic floor muscles. It is important, both pre and post-op, to understand how these muscles work and learn how to train them. Training the pelvic floor is not a one size fits all exercise and everyone requires an individualised treatment plan according to the assessment findings and the surgery that is planned or performed. Improving the function of the pelvic floor helps improve the surgical outcome long term. Spring Nutrition for Seniors

Spring brings with it a crop of nutrient-rich super foods that are especially beneficial for older adults. As you age, its vital to eat healthy foods to maintain weight, manage and prevent diabetes, and boost brain health. Spring is a great time to swap out processed foods that lack nutritional value – for fresh fruits and vegetables. Some spring super-foods that are perfect for seniors to enjoy include artichokes, leaks, asparagus, green peas, watercress, strawberries and spinach. These springtime favorites are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants needed to live a healthy lifestyle.

Music and Dementia

The effects of dementia are devastating to individuals and their families. Researchers are keen to find ways to ease its symptoms and restore abilities and memory. Studies on music and dementia have shown promising findings. Did you know that the area of the brain associated with musical memory tends to be least affected by dementia? Music therapy may help reduce cognitive decline while improving the memory of people with dementia. In one study, test subjects performed better on memory tests when they listened to music. It has also been found that the emotional content of music can bring back emotional memories.

Healing with Salt Therapy

Salt therapy offers many benefits and is safe and effective for everyone, including children, older adults, and the immunocompromised. Salt therapy’s antimicrobial effect helps kill bacteria and fungi in the respiratory system and on the skin. The magnesium content in salt therapy offers relaxation, calming, and pain-relieving effects, and can assist with handling spring allergies and boosting immunity. Salt therapy’s natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties are helpful for breathing easier, combatting allergies, and boosting immunity, while also reducing the severity and symptoms of asthma, chronic cough, sinusitis, smoker’s cough, and throat irritations.
