There’s No Place Like Home

Many seniors, whether they need short-term or long-term care, prefer remaining in a place most familiar to them— their home. By removing elderly loved ones from their home, we often take away years of memories and relationships with neighbours and communities, which can lead to a decline in health and leave them feeling sad and isolated. If Mom or Dad is willing to explore the idea of home care, involve them in the process and remember to take it slow at first. Home is still the safest place to receive care!

Seasonal Allergies and Dentures

If you wear dentures and suffer from seasonal allergies, it can be tricky to manage allergies. Allergies can cause sinus discomfort, which might affect how your dentures feel. To stay comfortable, clean your dentures often to remove allergens like pollen and dust. If you’re using allergy medication, check if it affects your oral health. Avoid smoking, as it can make both allergies and dentures harder to deal with. Also, since allergies can cause dry mouth, drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist and help your dentures fit better.

Senior Information Session – April 30, 2025

The Victoria Seniors Business Network (VSBN) is hosting a free session titled “Navigating Community-Based Resources for Seniors.” This event will occur on April 30th at St. Patrick’s Parish, located at 2060 Haultain Street in Victoria. 5-Ingredient Date Snickers

20 dates – pitted; 1/2 c peanut butter; 3 tbsp peanuts; 1 1/4 c dark chocolate chips; 1/2 tsp coconut oil. Line a plate with parchment paper. With a small knife, make a lengthwise slit in each date, slicing about halfway down. Fill each date with peanut butter & sprinkle peanuts on top. Place dates in the freezer to firm up until completely solid- approximately one hour. Add chocolate chips into a double boiler over medium low heat, stirring as the chocolate melts. Add oil if desired to make the chocolate thinner. Drop the dates one by one into the melted chocolate, flipping to get it entirely coated. Let cool in fridge & enjoy!
